Story By Chuck Zachman, Metrolina Area Director

The first annual Carolinas Porschefest '97 was by all accounts a huge success. We ended up
with 54 cars participating in the various events throughout the weekend. We had Porsches from
the very earliest 356's to the very newest Boxsters. Most all production models were represented.

There were 356's, 912's, 911's, a 914, 928's, 930's, 944's, Boxsters and a couple of really cool
modified cars. Driver's Meeting Prior to the Rally The weekend was nonstop fun from the time
people checked in Friday afternoon until they left the autocross site Sunday afternoon. If asked to
pick a highlight for the weekend I would have a difficult time doing so. Our event chairpeople did
such an outstanding job that every night was a highlight. The concours was impressive with some
of the finest examples of the marque I have ever seen assembled for an event such as this.

Pre-Rally Meeting

Our rally was challenging and fun. We could not have had a prettier day for a drive into the
countryside keeping our eyes peeled for that six-legged deer, or the derelict bus.

Slow that 911 down ...

At our banquet we heard from region member and national treasurer Dave Lumpkin, Zone 3
representative Danny Sexton and from PCNA, Chuck James who gave a great presentation on the Boxster.

We followed that up with trophies for the concours and rally along with all the door prizes. Sunday morning
we headed off to Knights Castle for the autocross. Another picture-perfect day as concluded with
trophy presentations to the fastest drivers in each class as well as trophies for "Fastest Time of the Day"
(FTD) in the men's and ladies' divisions.

This event would not have been possible were it not for the support of our sponsors. We owe a
huge thank you to the folks at Hendrick Porsche. They were our major sponsor and the level of
support they put forth financially, with the contribution of door prizes and assistance
from their people, is to be remembered. A special thanks also goes to J. C. Bradford & Co.
(Darrell Smith) for their financial support also.

I would also like to thank , from the bottom of my heart, all the members who volunteered
their time to offer other members a memorable weekend. You all know who you are.

Thanks again.

Planning for the second annual CPF '98 is already underway.
If you wish to volunteer, let me know. It takes volunteers to pull this off.
